Thesis

The thesis option focuses on graduate coursework and independent research. By the end of the program, you will have a written thesis and an oral presentation that defends your original work and contribution to the field of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Christopher Shearer

My research investigates the chemical, physical, mechanical, and durability properties of infrastructure materials. A primary focus is on characterizing and developing innovative, but practical, cement-based and alternative materials for a future sustainable infrastructure that reduces the global footprint of the construction materials industry.

Mengistu Geza Nisrani

My research focuses on improving prediction of hydrologic and contaminant fluxes for better management of water resources using combination of field, laboratory, and modeling approaches.

South Dakota Mines accelerated master's degree programs enable you to complete both a B.S. and M.S. degree in as little as 5 years. Up to 12 credits applied toward the B.S. program may be used to satisfy graduate credit requirements. See individual programs for the number of credits allowed by the program. More information is also available at the South Dakota Mines Online Catalog.

Students desiring to participate in the accelerated program are encouraged to apply at the end of their junior year. Students must have 90 credits completed (or in progress) at the time of application, along with a 3.0 GPA. The deadline to apply is the start of the final semester of the bachelor's degree.

Courses must be taken at the 400/500/600 level. Courses taken at the 400 level are subject to other requirements listed in the catalog.
