South Dakota Mines Adds National Society of Leadership and Success Chapter
South Dakota Mines inducted its first class of the National Society of Leadership and Success on Nov. 17, 2021.

South Dakota Mines has established a chapter of The National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) for its students. The first class for NSLS on our campus was inducted Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Surbeck Ballroom on the Mines campus.

The National Society of Leadership and Success is the nation's largest leadership honor society and collegiate leadership development program. It includes 1.5 million members and more than 700 colleges nationwide. The NSLS is the only program of its kind to have earned accreditation for its programming.

“Our students already arrive with the curiosity and tenacity to be successful in the classroom, but we have also seen that they are eager for leadership skills and leadership opportunities. This program will allow them to leave South Dakota Mines as not only talented scientists and engineers but as prepared leaders who are ready to change their corner of the world," says Joe Dlugos, Ph.D., dean of students at South Dakota Mines.

Students who wish to join NSLS must complete a step-by-step leadership development program. The curriculum offers students the opportunity to develop many in-demand skills such as leadership, communication and team building. They will also have the opportunity to complete additional online educational modules in order to earn credit for their work with NSLS. To be considered for NSLS candidacy, a student must be a sophomore or junior with a cumulative GPA of above 2.75.
