Multiple university ranking organizations place South Dakota Mines among the top schools in the nation for value and graduate outcomes. The rankings show Mines is an excellent return on investment for those seeking degrees in STEM fields, including healthcare and technology business management.

South Dakota Mines has been recognized for its honorable commitment to engaged, experiential education by Colleges of Distinction, which is celebrating its 20-year anniversary as a guide for college-bound students. Following a rigorous vetting and interview process, the organization gives Mines high marks for providing a personalized education catered to students' interests. Mines is recognized for excellent student outcomes, return on investment and its efforts to promote inclusion in STEM and engineering fields that prepare students to be leaders in the global marketplace.

Mines is ranked in the top 10 military friendly schools in the nation. The organization Military Friendly ranks Mines 7th in the United States with a gold medal for exceeding standards of culture and commitment, academia, admissions, financial aid, return on investment, and support for military students. Mines boasts a 100% graduate placement rate for military and veteran students in their field of study over the past five years.

Mines online and in-person graduate programs also put the university among the top schools in the nation.

Intelligent ranks South Dakota Mines the number one university in the country for a master's degree in engineering management. Intelligent also ranks Mines online and on-campus graduate programs very well across the board. Mines is second in the nation for the best online master's in engineering degree programs, second for most affordability in online master's programs, and third in the nation for the best online master's in construction management.

The organization Great Business Schools ranks South Dakota Mines master's in construction management in the country's top 10, and says, “The MS in Construction Engineering & Management from South Dakota Mines is one of the best masters in construction management available in the US.”

Mines undergraduate degree programs also fared well in national and state rankings.

In its 2021 rankings, Study.com puts Mines in the top 10 best electrical engineering degree programs in the nation. The organization considered hundreds of universities across the country and selected Mines based on academic and career resources, the quality of education, faculty, and more.

The publication Computer Science Degree Hub ranks Mines' bachelor's in computer science among the top 10 most affordable in the nation. Mines also tops many other schools in outcomes with computer science graduates who earn an average starting salary of $75,843. The university recently expanded its offerings in computer science with three new specializations.

The online publication 24/7 Wall Street puts Mines the number one return on investment in South Dakota due to the university's 96 percent placement rate for graduates in their field of study and average starting salary of more than $66,500. 

SmartAsset also ranks South Dakota Mines as the best value in the state.

Unlike some other high-value universities, South Dakota Mines gives admission to more than 80 percent of applicants. Most who meet the minimum requirements are accepted. The university also offers an array of scholarships and financial aid.
