South Dakota Mines Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs Named to Leadership Academy Cohort
Darcy Briggs, Ph.D., the associate vice president for academic affairs at South Dakota Mines has been accepted into the prestigious Western Academic Leadership Academy hosted by the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE). The academy is described by WICHE as a “year-long professional development program for academic leaders aspiring to become chief academic officers in the WICHE region's postsecondary sector.”
Briggs works to improve the student and faculty experience at Mines with co-curricular programming, accreditation, assessment, faculty development, non-credit professional education and institutional research.
Over the last 25 years, she has worked at two-year and four-year public and private institutions in Nevada, Colorado and South Dakota.
“We're fortunate to have world-class leaders on campus like Dr. Briggs,” says Mines President Jim Rankin. “I'm happy to see WICHE is recognizing her with this leadership academy. Mines has an excellent future thanks to the hard work of so many like Dr. Briggs.”
Briggs earned her bachelor's degree in management from Northern State University; a master of public administration degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; a master of education from Regis University and a Ph.D. in leadership from University of the Cumberlands.
