Swing into Romance: Mines Music Students Host Annual Sweetheart Dinner and Dance Fundraiser

South Dakota Mines music students invite the community to embrace the warmth of the winter season at their sixth annual Sweetheart Dinner and Dance.
The event is a fundraiser that supports music scholarships and the expanding Mines music program.
“This is one of my favorite events of the year because the students get to show off their hard work and skills while interacting with the crowd in a way that no typical concert allows. Especially since the event raises funds for their music scholarships, I know it means so much to the students and their supporters to connect on this level as they perform, serve food and meet donors, alumni, families and staff,” said Dr. Haley Armstrong, director of bands at Mines.
The 2025 Sweetheart Dinner and Dance is at 5:30 p.m. on both Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday,
Feb. 15 at the university’s Music Center. The fun evening includes a four-course meal and the musical
stylings of the Wind Ensemble, Concert Choir, Singing Engineers, String Theory and
Hardrockapella Vocal Jazz Ensemble.
Following dinner, guests are welcome to hit the dance floor and enjoy big band classics performed by the Jazz Ensemble.
“Musically, we are set for an incredible night,” said Dr. Gerrit Scheepers, director of choirs at Mines. “There will be something for everyone, from classics like ‘In the Mood’ and ‘Sing, Sing, Sing’ to new works by composer John Williams and the pop group Fun.”
Tickets are $75 per person with all proceeds dedicated to scholarships. To purchase your tickets, please visit https://cara.sdsmt.edu/events/2025-sweetheart-dinner-dance-
