South Dakota Mines Hosts Spring Career Fair

South Dakota Mines will hold its spring Career Fair with 190 companies scheduled to participate. The fair is set for 11 a m.-4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 6, in the King Center on campus.

“Our biannual career fair plays a crucial role in establishing the excellent return on investment our students receive,” says South Dakota Mines President Jim Rankin, Ph.D., P.E. “We greatly appreciate each of these 190 companies coming to our campus to recruit our students.”

South Dakota Mines' career fairs are regularly some of the largest in the state. Vendors and companies at the spring 2024 Career Fair include Freeport-McMoRan, Emerson, Caterpillar, Cargill, Collins Aerospace, Doosan Bobcat, Kiewit, Nucor, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Omnitech, Daktronics, Raven, Halliburton, 3M and RESPEC, among many others. Companies represent 32 states plus Washington, DC, and Canada. A total of 55 companies are South Dakota-based, and 20 companies are from the Black Hills.

South Dakota Mines graduates remain highly sought after. A total of 98% of the most recent graduating class are employed in their field of study or are in graduate school and have an average starting salary of $70,036. Additionally, 73% of last year's graduates had relevant work experience through paid internships, co-ops or research experiences, averaging $22.62 per hour for 220 employers in 37 states in addition to Guam and Ireland.

Internships prove to be a valuable educational experience, as those who participated in an internship had a placement rate of 100% and an average starting salary of $72,458, compared to a placement rate of 92% and an average starting salary of $62,558 for those who did not participate in an internship.
