Brief Bio
Dr. Pritchard earned her Ph.D. in Sociology with a specialization in Women’s and Gender Studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is originally from Nebraska and enjoys living in the Black Hills. Her hobbies include hiking, ATVing, and LEGOs.
Research Expertise
Dr. Pritchard’s research demonstrates her variety of interests. One thread of her work focuses on double mothers – women who are both biological and stepmothers. This group of mothers is unique from both women who are only biological mothers or only stepmothers regarding their psychological well-being and their abilities to enact motherhood. Dr. Pritchard also has done work on the history of sex work in Deadwood, SD, the marketing text of beef bull semen, and portrayals of gender and parenthood anxiety in Eggbert cartoons.
Teaching
Dr. Pritchard teaches a variety of courses including Introduction to Sociology (SOC 100), Social Problems (SOC 150), Courtship & Marriage (SOC 250), and Popular Culture and Society (SOC 260). She also regularly teaches upper-level courses on drugs (SOC 411), Criminology (SOC 351), Human Sexuality (SOC 492), and Health & Society (SOC 492).
