Breif Bio
Dr. Nagarajan works as a Research Scientist at Arbegast Materials Processing and Joining Laboratory (AMP Lab), leading some of its projects on additive manufacturing. He also advises undergraduate researchers and graduate students associated with the AMP Lab on their projects. Prior to his appointment at SD Mines, Dr. Nagarajan worked as a research faculty at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur studying materials mechanical behavior at different length and time scales. He has also held postdoctoral positions at McMaster University, Canada, and Indian Institute of Technology Madras after his PhD, working on projects funded by General Motors and government agencies.
Research Expertise
Dr. Srinivasan Nagarajan’s research explores processing-structure-performance relationships in additively manufactured materials with an emphasis on materials fabricated via solid-state/hybrid additive manufacturing methods. He currently focuses on structural steels fabricated by Cold spray deposition, Friction stir-based manufacturing, and Wire direct energy deposition. Dr. Nagarajan’s research experience spans various academic institutions and national labs, which includes serving as principal investigator of projects funded by government agencies, establishing/administering laboratories, advising students, and collaborating across disciplines.
