Breif Bio
Dr. Jayaraman Sridharan is a Research Scientist and Lecturer in the Department of Mining Engineering and Management at South Dakota Mines. With a Ph.D. from IIT Kharagpur, India, Dr. Sridharan has contributed to numerous consultancy projects focused on optimizing ventilation systems in both coal and metal mines. He has also secured research funding from federal agencies like CDC-NIOSH, NSF, and DoE. He is an active member of the Underground Ventilation Committee (UVC) of SME and serves as a reviewer for the Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (MMEX) journal. Dr. Sridharan also serves as a subject matter expert for MSHA training, contributing to the development and delivery of safety training programs.
Research Expertise
Dr. Jayaraman Sridharan’s research focused on critical areas of mining engineering, including mine ventilation, mine health and safety, and critical minerals. His work has made significant contributions to understanding and improving airflow in underground mining environments, addressing shock loss. Collaborating with esteemed colleagues, he has co-authored numerous studies and articles, further solidifying his expertise and impact in the field of mining and ventilation engineering. Dr. Sridharan's research also addresses the challenges of trapped fumes in underground blasting and the presence of radon in mining operations, highlighting his commitment to enhancing safety standards in the industry. He also conducted research on rare earth elements in the Powder River Basin, focusing on their occurrence and potential for enhancing resource extraction and utilization.
