Proposal Acceptance
Once a proposal has been submitted hopefully it will be approved by the funding source.
This approval begins the post-award process, the first step of which is the review
and acceptance of the award.
Many funders show the status of a proposal within their system on a website; researchers
may see the funder move the status from “Under Review” to “Recommended for Funding”
to “Awarded.” It is critical to note that until an award document is received by the
School that no award has actually been made. In many cases funders may choose to approve
a proposal at a rate less than that included in the proposal.
Once the award letter or documentation is received by Office of Sponsored Programs
(OSP), staff will begin to review the document to make sure that it does not contain
anything that is unallowable according to South Dakota Law or Board of Regents Policy.
They will also make note of the reporting requirements associated with the award and
determine the best fund/account structure to accomplish the tracking needed by the
agency awarding the funding. Oftentimes an exchange will need to occur between OSP,
the researcher and the funder to create a final award document that is acceptable
to all parties.
Once the award is reviewed and accepted, OSP will create the funds in BANNER needed
to carry out the proposal on campus.
