Cost Sharing
Some funding sources require cost-sharing or match as part of their proposal. These
are cases where the funder awards money to South Dakota Mines for certain direct and
F&A costs but requires that the School is also spending funds to support the proposal.
These expenses are called cost-sharing or match and they most often take the form
of a portion of the researcher's time and effort. A monthly Time and Effort Report
will be generated for each individual cost sharing for a grant or sponsored project.
Other expenses may be used as cost-sharing or match like the purchase of equipment
or in-kind services rendered by industry partners. In each of these cases, OSP is
available to assist the researcher in developing the correct documentation needed
to verify these expenses so that they may be used as part of the requirements for
the award. OSP will also keep the record of these expenses on file in their office
on behalf of the PI.
