STEM Exploration Camp - Science and Engineering

Explore the world of science and engineering at the South Dakota Mines STEM Exploration Camp. This four-day experience introduces high school students to a variety of STEM fields through hands-on activities and presentations led by faculty and experts from across campus.

STEM Exploration

During this immersive camp, students explore how different STEM disciplines shape the world around us. Camp sessions highlight areas such as aerospace, atmospheric and environmental science, civil and structural engineering, environmental engineering, metallurgical engineering, industrial engineering, chemistry, and chemical engineering.

Through hands-on activities, lab experiences, and interactive demonstrations, campers learn how these fields tackle real-world challenges—from designing resilient infrastructure and advancing sustainable technologies to developing new materials and exploring the science of flight and the environment. Participants will also meet faculty and researchers, gaining insight into what it’s like to study STEM at South Dakota Mines and the wide range of careers these fields offer.

Parents join us on Thursday afternoon to learn more about what their campers experienced. Campus tours will also be available at that time.
