The Slide Rule Math Help Center

The shortest path between any two Mines majors goes through mathematics.
Jim Rankin
South Dakota Mines President

Mathematics is a cornerstone discipline in almost every branch of engineering, science, and technology, so it is not surprising that Hardrockers have to take a lot of math classes to earn their degrees. The new Slide Rule Math Help Center has been created to help Hardrockers succeed in math!
Staffed by mathematics faculty and student tutors, the Slide Rule is a joint venture by the Vanderboom Office of Student Success and the Department of Mathematics. It's a drop-in math help center where students in Precalculus, Trigonometry, and Calculus I and II can come to work on their homework and get help with their mathematics.  As the old saying goes, “the only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics,” and the Slide Rule is a place where you can do both!

Slide RuleThe Slide Rule is open Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 6 pm, and Friday from 10 am to 4 pm. There is no fee for these services, and no appointment is necessary, so stop on by. It's a great place to meet math study groups, create relationships with Mines faculty, and get some mathematical moral support. We're looking forward to helping you succeed at math so you can succeed at Mines!

The Slide Rule is located in the southeastern corner of the third floor of the Devereaux Library, across from the Maker Space. It is an inviting student area with reconfigurable tables, rolling glass-boards, two laptop stations, four quiet rooms, and access to some of the best math help on campus.
